While trying to outrun a herd of stampeding stegosauruses, Jack and Hannah are surprised to find a young boy riding among them. The boy guides the creatures away from Jack's Cadillac, but injures his leg in the process. Hannah wants to find the boy, but Jack advises her to stay out of it, "He's a wild child," he admonishes. When they arrive at the mine they're supposed to be investigating, Hannah slips away to find the boy. She rescues him from a marauding pterodactyl and brings him to the city, looking to tend his wounds. The Grith appears to Jack, cautioning him that the boy must be returned to them. When Jack takes Hannah to meet the Grith so that everything can be explained, Hammer kidnaps the boy, hoping to making him control the dinosaurs in order to make his hunting easier.
