Synopsis by Hal Erickson

While Vitagraph kept busy with feature-length productions in 1916, its subsidiary Broadway Star Features fulfilled the company's commitment of a weekly three-reel release. One of these featurettes was By Love Redeemed, a neat and precise little urban melodrama. Jewell Hunt stars as Nell, the daughter of a burglar. When Nell announces that she wants to go straight, her father responds by rendering her unconscious and leaving her at the scene of his latest heist. The force of the blow apparently jars loose Nell's sense of right and wrong, and before long, she's an even more accomplished criminal than dead old dad. A handsome young artist falls in love with Nell, and arranges for her to undergo an operation that will wipe out her criminal tendencies (the poor heroine must have had an awful headache throughout the film's running time). Once cured, Nell finds work as a maidservant in a wealthy household. Sure enough, her father shows up late one night to burglarize the place, but in the course of events manages to blow himself up with his own nitroglycerin. At long last free of her dad's influence, Nell is finally able to marry her artist sweetheart.
