We've come a long way from the 1933 cartoon I Eats My Spinach, in which Popeye reduced a charging bull to a variety of packaged meats. In this cartoon, kindhearted Popeye refuses to attend a South American bullfight because he is dead set against any sort of cruelty to animals. But Popeye's fondness for Senorita Olive compels him to enter the bullring, where he is faced with a particularly surly "El Toro". Even so, the spinach-eating sailor goes to great and sometimes impossible links to defeat the bull without ever resorting to swordplay.
