A middle-aged man (Velimer Bamberg) who was once interested in life and politics leads a grey existence in this somber melodrama. His only goal is to raise enough money to send his sickly sister to the seashore to recover. His loneliness is temporarily assuaged when he meets a young woman and falls in love. The woman is only after his money and leaves him cold after stealing his savings. The man resigns himself again to his miserable life and starts saving his money all over again.
