Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

The eight talented brothers who make up the Hypnotic Black Ensemble strive to maintain the principles instilled in them by their legendary father, anti-establishment jazz great Phil Cohran, while simultaneously carving their own paths as musicians in this documentary from filmmaker Reuben Atlas.Growing up in Chicago, the {$Cohran siblings practiced constantly while their father instilled them with the spirit of Black Consciousness. Today they create music that will lift your soul and spirit. But whether collaborating with talented artists such as Mos Def or taking jazz festivals to the next level, these eight brothers endure changes that challenge the very foundation of their beliefs. Meanwhile, in the midst of creating music, they must decide precisely where the past and the present should part ways.
