A major star of the 1910s, blond May Allison found her career waning after the sudden death in 1918 of her screen partner Harold Lockwood. In The Broad Road, an entry in First National's "Associated Authors" series, Allison plays a young girl, "rescued from the pitfalls of city life," as a surviving review puts it, and brought to a rough lumber camp. She is immediately mistreated by a nasty villain (Ben Hendricks) and when handsome Richard C. Travers attempts to interfere, he is promptly arrested for a crime he didn't commit. Travers escapes, however, and there is the inevitable final confrontation between the rivals. The Broad Road was penned by a pulp writer bearing the delightful alias of Habsburg Liebe.
