Synopsis by Steve Blackburn

The old nursery rhyme postulated the difference between the sexes to be that girls were made of "sugar and spice and everything nice," while boys consisted of "snips and snails and puppy dog tails." Sugar and Spice, volume one of Brain Sex, examines the origins of sexual identity. The program reports on growing scientific evidence that gender may also be reflected in different brain structures for females and males. Studies indicate that sexual developmental differences in the genders are the result of the particular mix of hormones a fetus encounters in the womb, which may account for some of the behavioral differences between the sexes.
