Documentarian Nisha Pahuja's first full-length film, Bollywood Bound, examines the lives of four Canadian-born Indians as they make the trek to their homeland to find fame and fortune in India's burgeoning film industry. The four people Pahuja follows are at varying stages in their show business careers: Ruby Bhatia has been in the country for quite some time and has already worked her way up to megastar status in the Bollywood film industry. Indian TV star Vikram Dhillon and his sister Vekeana bide their time on their successful television show while awaiting calls from their agents to star in films. New arrival Neehru Bajwa tries to settle in as she also waits for promised screen tests and auditions. All four struggle with their identities as Indians, which they'd developed prior to arriving in India via pop cultural references in the Bollywood films they had viewed growing up -- a situation that has invariably made them feel neither Canadian nor Indian at various points in their lives. Bollywood Bound was included in the program for the 2002 Asian American International Film Festival.
