Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program presents a profile of the fundamentalist Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini. Revered in Iran and reviled in America, the life of Khomeini exemplifies the divergent points of view of two different parts of the world. To one, he is a hero, defiant of the decadent power of the West. To the other, he is the personification of a tyrannical despot. The video features archival film footage of the Ayatollah's exploits, including the Iran hostage incident. Personal accounts reflect the opposing points of view of this controversial figure. The film emphasizes that on one point, all can agree: Ayatollah Khomeini is one of the most significant figures in the political history of the 20th century.
