This Hindi language film centers on poor Jamuna, who has lost both her mother and her father. Though she is of marrying age, her widowed stepmother refuses to find her a husband and instead sells her to her uncle. The uncle, in turn, sells Jamuna to a brothel, where she is forced to dance and sing. Finally, she escapes, and soon comes across a pair of runaway twins. She decides to help get the children back to Bombay, where their father, Jagdish, is dying of cancer. With Jadish, Jamuna finally finds real love, but his time left on earth is short. Could her place in this new family's be her chance at the life she's always yearned for?
