Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Brooklyn-born photographer, painter and illustrator Billy Sullivan remains one of the most celebrated visual artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.Sullivan's photographs - many taken of artistic contemporaries, relatives and friends - constitute a veritable journal of the artist's day to day life and experience. The artist then uses these images to inspire his drawn and painted tableaux. The Microcinema release Billy Sullivan: Photographs compiles an onscreen "notebook" of Sullivan's work. It also features an audio interview with the photographer and a critical essay by Peter Schjeldal of The New Yorker.
