Synopsis by Hal Erickson
It's not often that American audiences are permitted to see an Iranian film, so if Beyond the Mist comes your way, don't pass up the opportunity. The nucleus of the film is the attempted assassination of a much-hated politician. The assassins fail in their mission, but the politico is seriously injured. He ponders the purpose of his life as he lies hovering between the Here and the Hereafter. His mystical musings are contrasted with the horrors experienced by a recent veteran of the Iran-Iraq war. Beyond the Mist isn't intended to appeal to a Western audience, but give it a chance anyway.
