Synopsis by Gönül Dönmez-Colin

A minimalist tale of life in the ex-Soviet Republics, Beol-i-nalda by a group of first-time directors is a remarkable achievement in portraying human foibles with poetry. A middle-aged schoolteacher with a strong sense of justice and fairness and a stubborn streak like a mule challenges his rich and pompous neighbor who treats him with disdain. The issue is the toilet the latter digs up too close to the dividing wall between the two gardens. The teacher who cannot protest through legal channels decides to get even with his neighbor his own way. But he is too good for evil deeds. Golden Alexander, the Special Jury Award of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, 1998 was given to Beol-i-nalda.
