This seven-volume documentary series focuses on some of the most important people and techniques in the history of moviemaking. The episodes are: "Film Before Film" an examination of the inventions and techniques that created the movie industry. "John Huston & the Dubliners" a look at Huston's last film. "The Last Diva" which chronicles the career of Francesca Bertini (in Italian with English subtitles.) "Lulu in Berlin" an interview with Lousie Brooks as she discusses her work with Dietrich, Garbo, and others (includes film clips). "The Making of Fanny & Alexander" a detailed examination of Bergman's work. "The Man You Loved to Hate" an examination of the films of actor-director Erich von Stoheim. "Victor Sjostrom" a profile of the Swedish actor-director whom Bergman considered a "father figure".
