Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Bear Country was the first "Disney True-Life Adventure," and like many of its predecessors, it earned an Academy Award. Filmed in color, this 32-minute documentary offers a close-up-and-personal look at the bears living in Yellowstone National Park. Special attention is paid a bear cub as it matures into an adult, able to fend for itself without its parents' help. Typically, several of the scenes are played for laughs, but since bear cubs are natural clowns, the comedy content never seems arbitrary or intrusive. After its theatrical run, Bear Country made its TV debut on the May 1, 1957 edition of the weekly Disneyland anthology.
