Battle of the Stars is not a celebrity sports event. Your second guess was correct: this is a low-budget science fiction opus, with adequate special effects and variable acting. The Earthling heroes take on a rampaging horde of alien invaders. At stake: nothing less than total control of the Solar System. Topping the cast in Battle of the Stars are John Richardson and Jason Palance (Jack's son).
