Synopsis by Hal Erickson

In 1978, Ina Garten quit her job with the White House atomic-energy bureau so that she could purchase a small food store in the Hamptons region of Long Island. Within two decades, this little enterprise would grow into an immensely profitable, 3,000-square-foot food emporium known as "The Barefoot Contessa." After selling the business to her employees in 1991, the fabulously wealthy Garten elected to share her culinary expertise with the rest of the world. Hence, she began writing best-selling cookbooks, and in 2003 launched her own TV program. Telecast by cable's Food Network, Barefoot Contessa was dedicated to the host's proposition that even the most lavish of meals and elaborate of dinner parties could be prepared by anyone, "with simplicity, style, and fun."
