Synopsis by Robert Firsching
Coming across as a gentler Greek version of El Topo, this fascinating abstraction from writer/director Stavros Tornes takes as its springboard the Gypsy notion of the "balamos," a soul condemned to wander forever. Here, Tornes plays a character named Balamos, who must wander forever looking for his horse. He travels through various periods of time, showing up to defend himself in a courtroom in the Dark Ages, serving as a slave in Biblical times, and so forth, occasionally led by Kyriakos (Kyriakos Vilanakis), a figure who appears in various disguises throughout history. There are encounters with a serpentine oracle, a female Yeti (Eleni Maniati), and the prophet who saw Christ crucified. The whole bizarre spectacle ends up on Mount Olympus, where Balamos becomes a vampire who lives on the blood of horses. Eventually, his ability to wander ceaselessly through the ages gets taken away, and he returns to a normal life. Mitsos Angelakopoulos and Enzo Attigenti co-star.
