Synopsis by Bhob Stewart

Atman is Sanskrit for "soul." This Finnish-German documentary is narrated by 35-year-old Indian pilgrim Jamana Lal, afflicted with congenital defects which have given him a twisted back and stumps for legs. With his deceased mother's ashes, Lal travels up the Ganges River to the lower Himalayas, making a 4500-mile journey from a southern village to the source of the holy river. In Hindi with English subtitles. Shown at the 1997 Vancouver Film Festival.
