Synopsis by Mark Deming
Nikos Panayotopoulos co-wrote and directed this drama of a man hoping to find himself on the road. A middle-aged attorney who has grown dissatisfied with his life and has been struggling with loneliness since his divorce learns that his father is severely ill. The attorney decides he should pay his dad a visit and hops in his car to make the trip to Thessaloniki. However, a massive traffic tie-up forces him to take a different route than he usually follows, and as he winds his way through Greece, he sees a side of life that's been all but forgotten by him. En route, the attorney meets a beautiful woman and he's soon smitten, but despite her interest in him she also happens to have a husband. Starring Alexia Kaltsiki, Lefteris Voyadzis and Dimitris Poulikakos, Athina-Konstadinoupoli (aka Athens-Istanbul) features a score of classic blues and jazz tunes, including numbers by Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson; the film was an official selection at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
