Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The 1954, full-color Garden of Eden opened the floodgates for that peculiar subgenre known as the Nudist Colony Film. Released mostly to grind houses catering to "Burlesque" flicks, these voyeuristic exercises were passed off as documentaries to sidestep undue censorship. By today's standards, the films are models of discretion: lots of breasts and behinds, but no "privates." Harrison Marks' As Nature Intended has no plot, just acres and acres of nudity--specifically the female variety. Originally titled Just as Nature Intended, Marks' 1961 epic was topped the following year by a nudist-camp musical (!), Goldilocks and the Three Bares, directed by the redoubtable Herschel Gordon Lewis.
