Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although her excellent work for German studio UFA got Pola Negri a Hollywood movie contract, not all the films she made overseas were winners. Case in point: this slow-moving, sex-laden melodrama which was basically a modern take on Camille (ironically, Negri had also shot her own version of the Dumas story). She plays Violette Duclos, a flower girl of the Paris streets. Through an auto accident she meets Alfred Germont, a poor playwright and they fall in love. But while Germont is in the country taking care of his sick sister, Violette becomes involved with Count Girgy, who offers her material comfort. Germont returns and forgives her indiscretion. After he becomes a success the couple move in together. Germont's family, however, urges her to give him up. She does so by running off to the Riviera with the Count. Germont finally discovers the reason she abandoned him and goes searching for her, only to find that she is suffering from a fatal illness.
