Synopsis by Steve Blackburn

Hosted by Anyplace Wild regulars John Viehman and Annie Getchell, this video features a two-part, one-hour special installment of the award-winning PBS series. Together, Viehman and Getchell take viewers along the backwoods water and portage route regularly traversed by fur traders and other pioneers during the 17th and 18th centuries, along what is today the U.S. and Canadian border. As the adventurers paddle through the various lakes and rivers, they recount the region's history and demonstrate that canoeing doesn't always involve paddling -- there are many places when they have to carry their canoe and gear to the next water stage of the route.
