Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Annapurna is the filmed record of the conquering of a precipitous Himalyan mountain. Lt. Col Walter A. Wood of the Arctic Institute of North America introduces the well-lensed footage of the Marcel Ichac expedition. Maurice Herzog, a member of the expedition, narrates the film, recounting the treacherous climb up Mt. Annapurna. The heroism of the climbers is more inspiring than the climb itself, which is justified with the usual "because it is there." Annapurna might have done better at the box-office had it not been released shortly after the more awe-inspiring documentary The Conquest of Everest (chronologically, Everest was conquered after Annapurna).
