Synopsis by Alice Day
Lizards and other reptiles are sometimes seen sunning themselves on rocks, as they seek to control their body's temperature through a process known as thermoregulation. When the day is too hot, they will retire to shady spots in order to cool themselves off. In Animal Physiology: Sunbaskers, it can be seen that this search for a comfortable environment results in better health for the animal. When a reptile's internal body heat is too low, it becomes sluggish, and cannot look for food efficiently. During periods of heat, these creatures have evolved ways of ridding themselves of excess warmth.
