Synopsis by Tracie Cooper

Directed by Noda Managadze, Angelosis Gadaprena is a throwback to symbolist East European cinema produced in the 60's and 70's. Focusing on the six decades of political and social life, ranging from the Soviet occupation to the liberated modern times, this film largely takes place in an underground shopping mall filled with contradictory images. There are sashaying prostitutes in the same gneral area as a priest (Dimitri Djaiani) busy with blessing a lingerie shop, while a slew of lonely-seeming couples strive for intimacy. An assassination in the middle of the mall precedes the second section of the movie, which takes place at an outdoor country feast.
