Synopsis by Alice Day

During the 12th century, a new warrior appeared in Japan, fiercely loyal to his master and highly skilled in the art of battle. For seven centuries, the samurai would protect their daimyo, or feudal landowner leaders. Some were related to their master, and some were simply hired to provide security and protection. In Ancient Tribes: The Samurai, viewers learn of the code by which these warriors lived and how their attitudes, influenced by Zen Buddhism, enabled them to engage in battle without fear. This freedom from fear instilled a sense of peace in the samurai.
