Synopsis by Alice Day

In the areas now known as Mexico and Central America, the Maya civilization prospered, and it is estimated that their numbers grew to 15 million. Their culture lasted 3,000 years and during that time, they developed a complex system of hieroglyphics, as well as advanced engineering skills and knowledge of astronomy. They constructed pyramids, temples, and cities, and their demise continues to puzzle scholars. Arizona Smith and his eager assistant discuss the daily lives of the Mayans, looking at their food, religious beliefs, and their inventions. The program is intended for students in grades three through seven.
