Synopsis by Augustine Chay
The late writer-director Hu Bo’s debut feature film unfolds over the course of a single day. Four disillusioned residents of a bleak northern Chinese city fixate on the story of an elephant in a zoo in Manzhouli who sits motionless and refuses to eat each day, enigmatically indifferent to the fact of its own existence.
