Synopsis by Alice Day

The sights and sounds of trolleys are encountered in American History for Kids: Trolleys, as a young man talks about the experiences of riding these early means of public transportation. The clanging of bells and the sound of wheels on rails were part of the American experience in the 19th century, as this program recounts. Young viewers can see archival footage of the earliest trolleys in action as they listen to the narration provided by a child. While trolleys were considered safe, wrecks were inevitable, and there are segments about collisions in this short film. Streetcars are still operating in some modern cities.
