Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Gay perfomance artist Jeffrey Strouth is literally the whole show in the bitterly funny American Fabulous. From his "pulpit"-the back seat of a '57 caddie-Strouth aciduously expostulates about life in general and his life in particular. Born in 1959, Strouth experienced a childhood that cannot in any way be characterized as normal. He went on to spend his teen years as a male prostitute, became involved with the transvestite scene, and ultimately fought a losing battle with drugs. American Fabulous was released only a few months after Strouth's death from AIDS in 1992.
