Synopsis by Rob Ferrier

This video further examines the massive buildup ordered by the Johnson administration. Within two years, 1.5 million Americans would be in Vietnam. This episode explores the events that led to that buildup and the political climate within the White House. Within these years, America began to realize something very serious was happening in a country that to this point, few had heard of. From this point on, it would be impossible to claim that the war with North Vietnam belonged to anyone but the U.S. Broad in scope and responsible in detail, this video makes good use of the huge amount of archival film available on the war. Its serious tone and responsible history makes this episode entirely appropriate for use in the college classroom.
