This nightly, two-hour news and opinion program was both an adjunct of CNN's 24/7 coverage of the 2003 Iraqi War and the network's decision to fire their high-priced but low-rated news diva Connie Chung. Formerly the co-anchor of CNN's American Morning, Paula Zahn was elevated to prime time, taking over the 7-9 PM slot previously occupied by Crossfire (cut from 60 to 30 minutes and moved to late afternoons) and Connie Chung Tonight (dispensed with altogether). American Evening with Paula Zahn debuted March 28, 2003.
