Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur
America Beyond the Color Line With Henry Louis Gates Jr.: East Coast -- Ebony Towers is the third installment of a four-part PBS documentary series. Host Gates is looking for the new challenges faced by black Americans over 100 years since W.E.B. DuBois identified "the problem of the color line." In this program, Gates investigates the small group of black Americans who hold political and economic positions of power. He travels to Harvard, Washington, D.C., and New York to see how this elite group represents the rest of the country. Includes interviews with U.S. General Colin Powell, music producer Russell Simmons, and chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley. This series was originally broadcast on PBS in February of 2004.
