Shelved since 1977, this beautifully photographed feature deals with four men who are called away from the native Georgia to fight the war. Beka (Temur Chkheidze) is a monk who enjoys painting pictures on the walls of the monastery. Ivane (Surab Kapianidze) is a poor farm worker who works to feed his many children. Naskida (Temo Djaparidze) is a stonecutter who uses his skills on the construction of a small church in the mountains, and Kirile (Djemal Moniava) is a young nobleman who yearns to marry his fiance. All of their lives are disrupted when they are summoned to fight for their country.
