Synopsis by Sally Barber
This program provides an intimate glimpse into the creative world of American artist Alexander "Sandy" Calder. In the 1930s, Calder invented the kinetic art form which became known as the mobile. Using his style trademarks of simplified shapes and a whimsical spirit, the artist applied his talent to theater design, jewelry, and other mediums. In this Museum of Modern Art program, viewers observe the great master from Pennsylvania at work on kinetic and stationary sculptures. While the documentary explores the complete range of Calder's talents, highlights include footage from a 1970s exhibit of the artist's work.
