Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This soul-stirring patriotic drama is set in the Aragon region of Spain in the late-19th century. Aurora Bautista stars as Agustina, a latter-day Joan of Arc who bitterly opposes the French invasion of her homeland. Though a humble peasant, Agustina is able to rally her countrymen to defend their land at all costs. Director Juan de Orduna seems more comfortable with the massive crowd scenes than with the film's more intimate moments. When the Madrid Films studios were destroyed by fire, it appeared that the negative for Agustina de Aragon had also gone up in flames; fortunately, this proved not to be the case.
