Synopsis by Mark Deming

Experimental filmmaker and video artist Leighton Pierce created this multi-media installation project. Three separate images are projected on a series of large wall-mounted screens, while other visual information is beamed onto all sides of a column set in the middle of the room. As the screens and the center column present a visual barrage of time-lapse images, a surround-sound audio system plays a fusion of nature sounds, ambient music, electronically manipulated vocalization and found sound effects. Pierce has written that the content of the images and sounds "focus on an awareness of perception, point of view, time, desire, and memory" and describes his intent as an effort to encourage "a different kind of viewing and listening -- one in which listening and looking inward matters as much as looking outward." Originally commissioned by theSheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln, Nebraska, Agency Of Time (Part 1B) was later presented at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
