Synopsis by Alice Day
In this fourth installment of Africa: The Story of a Continent, host Basil Davidson tracks the prospering region of West Africa, burgeoning as a consequence of its wide-ranging trade achievements. The ancient Hausa kingdoms of Kao and Katsina (now known as Nigeria) are examined for their roles in bringing about economic success. To illustrate his points, Davidson presents an in-depth look at art, especially sculpture, used in Nigerian rituals and narratives handed down through generations.
