This early anime series is regarded as being ahead of its time in many ways: its strong heroine exerts strength of character as well as athletic ability without the enhancements of technology or magic. Ace O Nerae tells the story of high school freshman Hiromi, who joins the tennis club because she admires the school's star player Ryuzaki. She soon finds, however, that despite the rigorous training, she actually loves tennis and has an innate ability to play the game. With the encouragement of her coach, Jin Munakata, Hiromi excels at the sport and the two develop a strong bond. Jin, however, is sacrificing his health for his love of coaching, and he may pay the ultimate price to see his favorite player succeed.
