Synopsis by Robert Firsching

Set on the eve of the 1949 Chinese Communist Revolution, this violent historical thriller from director Jiang Weihe deals with the kidnapping of a famous businessman named Feng Bingxiang (Li Nong) in a large city in the southeast of China. The local police chief, a dedicated Nationalist, accuses the Communists of the abduction, and the city is torn apart with feelings of shock and divided loyalties. That's when Li Aqiang (Wang Zhengjun), the stalwart former bodyguard of Feng Bingxiang's son, comes to his ex-employer and his sister offering to help them get their father back. It isn't just loyalty which motivates Aqiang, however, as he is secretly a Communist party member seeking to solve the kidnapping and get the suspicion off of his organization. After a difficult search for elusive clues, Aqiang locates the kidnappers and Feng Bingxiang, leading to a daring rescue attempt and a fierce climactic gun battle. Zhou Mei co-stars with Liu Yajun and Jiang Jun.
