Synopsis by Sally Barber
The esteemed late-night news program ABC News Nightline has provided in-depth reporting of major events since 1980. Originally aired on October 7, 1985, ABC News Nightline: Achille Lauro Hijacking recounts the terrorist attack on the cruise ship which was hijacked off Port Said, Egypt, by Palestinian terrorists. It was eventually surrendered after a Jewish-American passenger was killed, and then two days later, the Achille Lauro caught on fire off the coast of Somalia and sank. Ted Koppel, along with terrorism experts, ABC news correspondents, and spared passengers, provide insightful commentary into this tragic event. The program was compiled from a series of daily news updates.
