Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video is part of a PBS series, narrated by journalist Bill Moyers, that looks at some of the most influential ideas, events, and people of the 20th century. This program uses archival film footage to recall the Roaring Twenties, a decade of contrasts that brought America into the modern age. Victorian mores were supplanted by glamorous film stars, the charleston, and speakeasies, and business was booming. But poverty, labor unrest, and the rise of the Ku Klux Klan showed all was not well in the new society.
