Synopsis by Rebecca Flint Marx

Dilemmas of love and family loyalty are at the heart of A Single Drop of Water in a Mighty River, a drama that focuses on the life of Yukiko (Narumi Yasuda), a twentysomething woman eager to find fulfillment in life. When Yukiko trades in life in the small town where she grew up for the excitement and unpredictability of Tokyo, she leaves behind her adoring childhood boyfriend and equally loving parents. In Tokyo, she finds work and Nikolai (Sergei Nakariakov), a gentle, Japanese-speaking Russian trumpet player with whom she falls deeply in love. However, after losing her job and learning that her father has cancer, Yukiko returns to her small town, leaving behind Nikolai. Back at home, she soon becomes restless, and a visit from Nikolai forces her to make decisions that will have far-reaching effects on her life. A Single Drop of Water in a Mighty River was screened at the 2002 Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema.
