This Mongolian epic chronicles the era when the Manchurians were threatening to overtake Mongolia. The saga is set in 1657 and is divided into two parts. In the first part, the country is being torn apart by the battles between the Great Khan, local clan leaders and "The Living Buddha, Tsanabatsar." Khan needs an heir and makes one with his maid Amina. The second part is set in 1686. There is still no peace as the latest talks have broken down. Tsanabatsar's solution was to try to introduce a second written language to unify the diverse country. It failed and he was exiled to Manchuria.
