Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
Sometimes the simplest tales are the most powerful and this Hungarian drama of a young couple's grief is one of them. Vilma and Istvan are deeply in love and terribly proud of their newborn son. When he proves to be weak and sickness-prone, this puts a terrible strain on their relationship and as a result Istvan begins having an affair. One day, the boy's condition worsens dramatically and they rush him to the doctor. The physician fails to recognize that the boy has small-pox and shortly after the visit, the infant dies. The devastated Vilma and Istavan, unable to deal with their pain together, divorce. Later Vilma marries another while Istavan remains alone. Many years pass and at last they meet again. Time has helped ease the rawness of their suffering and they are finally able to discuss the events that led to their baby's death.
