Remnants of the Civil War exist today mainly as roadside markers and carefully preserved buildings. It's hard to visualize the all-encompassing conflict that took place 150 years ago. A Nation Asunder matches images to ideas in a detailed documentary of the American War. Looking at the last two years of the strife, A Nation Asunder, Pt. 2: The Tide Turns (1863-1865) shows the fall of the South. Strong throughout the early conflicts, the Confederates began to falter at the Battle of Gettysburg. Filmmakers use photographs, testimony of war veterans, and harrowing re-creations to bring the War back to life. Pickett's unsuccessful charge marked the turning point in the War. The video concludes with Lee's surrender at Appomattox. The realistic re-creations allow the viewer to visualize the Civil War in a thoroughly modern way.
