Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Reportedly based on a true story, the two-part British miniseries A Marriage of Inconvenience was set in 1945. Flying in the face of tradition, class consciousness, and racial prejudice, a young white woman named Ruth (Niamh Cusack) entered into a marriage with a black African man named Seretse (Raymond Johnson). The ensuing nationwide scandal rocked the foundations of British society and sorely strained the relationship between the two protagonists. Michael Duffield, who wrote and directed the project, also served as narrator. A Marriage of Inconvenience was shown on the Southern Television service in 1990.
