A Lover's Lament: The Edge by Cynthia Scott, well-known Canadian director of award winning films such as The Company of Strangers (1990), is a short film about the psychology of grief and how one copes with tragedy. The protagonist is so grief-stricken by the death of his mistress that the grief itself overpowers the memory of the loved one. A Lover's Lament which is adapted to screen from a short story by Guy de Maupassant, called La Morte (The Dead) is the second episode of the trilogy, The Edge, which began with The Mark on the Wall and will finish with The Sin of Jesus.
