Synopsis by Mark Deming

Elliott Carter is one of America's leading contemporary classical composers, and he's built his career around fusing European musical traditions with a modern-day and distinctly American sense of innovation. Documentary filmmaker Frank Scheffer spent the better part of 25 years keeping tabs on Carter and recording his thoughts on music and the culture in which it exists. A Labyrinth of Time presents a portrait of a thinker and artist, as Carter talks about New York City, technology, time, and other matters that impact his work. A Labyrinth of Time was screened at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.
